Taking on the Ten Tors

The Ten Tors Challenge is attempted by 2,400 teenagers in 400 teams of six. They navigate routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles over the northern half of Dartmoor, visiting ten nominated tors (check points) in under two days. This year PGS had two teams taking on the challenge.

Ten Tors, two teams and temperamental weather.

Thankfully this time the May event weekend was blessed with sunshine and a chill wind. The perfect weather for the mountainous task of trekking 35 miles for our team of Year 10 pupils and 45 miles for our older CCF cadets over the wilds of Dartmoor.

Both teams scaled their designated hills and came back smiling... some already looking ahead at the demanding 55-mile challenge next year.

Thanks to the MoD who organised yet another spectacular event complete with helicopters, parachuting and cannons and to Mr Chris Sayell and the Outdoor Pursuits team for training and supporting the pupils.
