A Wonderful Week of Words and Pictures

Book Week 2019 saw the children celebrating the wonderful world of books, their learning enriched by a series of interactive workshops with authors and illustrators and of course our book character dress-up day.

Our Infant children thoroughly enjoyed working with the inspirational Rosie Wellesley, creating story characters such as hedgehogs, monsters and pets through the different art mediums of printing, drawing and silhouette. Rosie then worked with the children to create a display of all their amazing work to celebrate their achievements.

Year Three and Four were enthralled by the poetry of Stewart Henderson; they participated in writing workshops and used their inspired ideas to produce some superb poems.

Year Five and Six were mesmerized by Tony de Saulle who shared his Beeboy series of novels. He led the children step by step and showed them how to draw animals, moving characters and even our digestive system. Year Five used these skills to create illustrations for their lost chapter from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Year Six successfully illustrated their Arctic Suspense stories. Tony most definitely inspired the pupils to be creative.

The articulate and stunningly entertaining Jamie Crawford performed to every child in the Junior School. He crossed over genres and included the children in his stories showing them how to develop plots and retell adventures.

The whole week culminated with our popular Book Character Dress up Day. Not only did all the children enjoy sharing their work with one another by collaborating with another year group during our Fabulous Finish, but the school was also taken over by characters from all our favourite stories, including, Peter Pan, The Demon Dentist, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka and The Worst Witch to name just a few.

What a week!!
